Human Resources
The Human Resources Department provides a centralized program of support services and consulting to all departments and the public.  The department administers a varied program of employee relations activities including presentation of information to employees, recognition programs, and individual counseling with employees/supervisors relative to job performance.

The Human Resources Department is also responsible for developing, interpreting, and administering the personnel program and policies that govern all Town employees. This includes: recruitment, selection, benefits, employee relations, compensation and classification, and security, maintenance and disclosure of all Personnel Records; developing and interpreting personnel policies and accepting applications for Town Employment.

Completing an application

  • Applications are only accepted for positions for which the Town of Aberdeen is actively recruiting. Unsolicited applications and/or resumes for other positions will be discarded.
  • Resumes are welcome as a supplement to the application but will not be accepted in lieu of the application.
  • If a closing date is included in the job announcement, applications must be received by the Human Resources Department no later than 5:00 p.m. on the closing date. Mailed applications must be postmarked on or before the closing date. Applications received or postmarked after 5:00 p.m. of the closing date will only be considered if suitable candidates are not identified during the original posting period.
  • Review the education and experience requirements for each position. These are minimum standards that applicants must meet or exceed to be given consideration for employment.
  • If applying for more than one open position, please fill out a separate application for each position.
  • Incomplete applications will not be referred to the hiring department. Answer all questions and complete all sections of the application form. “See Resume” is not acceptable.
  • You must indicate if you have ever been convicted of any crime. Violations must be explained (offense, date of conviction, disposition and circumstances) on a separate sheet of paper attached to the application. Please note that a conviction does not mean you cannot be hired. The offense and how recently you were convicted will be evaluated in relation to the job for which you are applying.

The Application Process

  • All applications are processed in the Human Resources Department. Applications of qualified applicants are then forwarded to the hiring department.
  • After the application deadline date, the hiring department reviews the applications and selects the most competitive applicants to be interviewed.
  • The period of time it takes to hire someone can be impacted by several factors; the number of applications received, the number of job openings within the hiring department, the workload of the department, holidays, supervisor and department head schedules and any unexpected events.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check will be conducted on all finalist candidates.
  • A background check includes criminal history, driving history, employment history and work references. Certain positions may require a credit check.
  • Applications are considered active for six months from the application date. During that time, an applicant does not have to complete another application unless the information on his/her application changes. To be considered for additional job openings, the applicant may simply notify the Human Resources Department of his/her name and the advertised opening they wish to apply for. After six months, an applicant must submit a new application.
