21st Annual Sardine Festival - October 11, 2013

The 21st Annual Sardine Festival will be on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Aberdeen Lake Park. The activities will begin at 11:00 a.m. and conclude around 2:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to join their family, friends, neighbors, Town officials and staff at Aberdeen Lake Park for a lunch of sardines, crackers, Moon Pies, RC Colas, and Cokes.

The sardines and other delicacies are free, but people are encouraged to make a small donation. The donations support youth athletic programs in Aberdeen and across Moore County.

The Sardine Festival started many years ago when the late Mr. Randall Moss wanted to eat his lunch of sardines and crackers in his office. His daughter Kay promptly told him to take that smelly lunch somewhere else…like eat it at the park. Randall did just that and invited all his friends to join him! Thus the unique Sardine Festival was created at Aberdeen Lake Park!

Through the years many Sardine Queens have been crowned. All have been proud title holders and represented the Festival extremely well in the community. The tradition continues this year, with the 2013 Queen arriving on a fire truck around 12:00 noon.

Tee shirts will be on sale, so plan to purchase your commemorative shirt of this fun day!

The Sardine Festival is sponsored by Mr. Jamie Boles, his friends, and the Town of Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Department.
