Small Business and Entrepreneurial Assistance (SBEA) Grant Awarded

The Town of Aberdeen applied, on behalf of four local businesses, for the 2012 SBEA grant from the NC Department of Commerce’s Community Investment and Assistance Division. Late last week, the Town was informed that it has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $250,000. These funds will be used by the local businesses to secure equipment and machinery upgrades in exchange for job creation in the community. The Town will be responsible for administering the grant under state and federal guidelines.

Along with aiding the grantees with their businesses, the Town will be responsible for planning and developing an initiative of helping to foster and grow an entrepreneurial environment for the community. The Town plans to work with Sandhills Community College’s Small Business Center in creating training and development processes for local business owners and future entrepreneurs.
