Notice for Public Comment - Town of Aberdeen Welhead Protection Program

Posted on Wednesday February 27, 2013

The Town of Aberdeen, with assistance from the North Carolina Rural Water Association, is in the process of developing a Wellhead Protection Program.  This is a voluntary program intended to assist in protecting the Town’s public water supply from contamination and to identify vulnerable areas around our wells called “Wellhead Protection Areas.”  Another goal of this program is to make residents and businesses aware that chemicals and other pollutants spilled or dumped in the vicinity of the “Wellhead Protection Areas” can be drawn into wells, possibly contaminating the system’s drinking water supply.

Town officials are asking for your help in developing this program.  A draft copy of the Wellhead Protection Plan will be available for review and comment in the Planning and Inspections Department at the Robert N. Page Municipal Building located at 115 N. Poplar Street for a period of 30 days.  The draft plan is also posted here

You are invited to review the program and submit any comments or suggestions to the Town of Aberdeen.  All written public comments will be reviewed by the Wellhead Protection Committee, and any suggestions or comments that may be beneficial will be incorporated into the program.  Comments should be submitted by April 5, 2013 to be considered during this adoption cycle.  Comments on the plan are welcome at any time as new wells and wellhead protection areas are added or additional pertinent information becomes available.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Kathy Liles, Planning Director at (910)944-4506 or Rickie Monroe, Public Works Director at (910)944-4525.
