ALL ABOARD!! …for the Sandhills Central Railroad Club Annual Model Train Show Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Admission is $5; children under 4 feet 8 ½ inches are free. This event will be at the historic Union Station located at The Depot - 100 East Main Street in Aberdeen, North Carolina. The show will feature the Club’s operating HO scale layout depicting downtown Aberdeen. The immediately adjacent Union Station Railroad Museum will also be open during the exhibition with docents available to interpret local and railroad history.
In 2007, with an agreement from the Town of Aberdeen, the club started building our new DCC (Digital Command Control) layout in the restored 1908 Union Station in Aberdeen. Our first train show was held there in 2010.
Club members are in the process of constructing replicas of buildings you will see in Aberdeen today. Upon completion it will depict portions of Main, South, Sycamore, and Poplar streets. It is also built in HO scale (1 foot = 87 feet) and has about 13 scale miles of track. Trains are run from handheld throttles. Switches are thrown from local control panels spaced around the layout. The DCC system allows operation of an unlimited number of trains simultaneously.
