Forest Hills Sewer Main Installation
The
Town of Aberdeen will begin installing sewer
mains in all areas of Forest Hills that are not
currently provided with sewer service.
This project is scheduled to begin June 1, 2010
and should be completed in September 2010.
Wellhead Protection Plan
The
Town of Aberdeen has chosen to develop a
comprehensive wellhead protection plan. We
want our citizens and water customers to know
that we are doing our part to protect your water
supply now and for the future. For more
information on the Wellhead Protection Plan,

Curbside Recycling Program
It is very important that you follow the
provided guidelines on what is acceptable for
recycling and what is not acceptable for
recycling. If you
need a copy of the guidelines they are available
at the Water Department located at 115 N. Poplar
Street, Aberdeen or click
here.
The Recycle Center that will be accepting the
Town recycle materials is very strict about
recycle materials being contaminated with those
items listed under “Items NOT acceptable
for Recycling”. Our employees will be doing
visual checks once our curbside recycling
program begins. It is possible that your
container may be rejected if contamination of
the recyclable materials is determined.
By keeping your recycle container free from
contamination, your efforts will not be wasted.
If there is contamination in the truck load
being delivered to the recycle center, it will
be reverted to the landfill for unloading.
Ultimately, contamination of recycle materials
will cost the Town of Aberdeen money.
We thank you in advance for your understanding
and willingness to do your part to make our
recycling program successful and save the Town
money!
We have
begun
“once
every two weeks”
curbside
recycling
and the schedule will be as follows:
-
If you
currently have a
Tuesday
solid waste pick up day, your solid waste
pick up day will remain the same
and your recycling day will be every other
Friday.
-
If you
currently have a Thursday
solid waste pick up day, your solid waste
pick up day will remain the same and your
recycling day will be every other Monday.

Reduced Pressure Zone on Water Only Meter
Requirements
The
Town of Aberdeen is requiring all Residential,
Commercial Building, Manufacturers, and
Restaurants have Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ)
hooked to their water only meter starting April
2010. This applies to all irrigation
systems.
New
construction irrigation will have their own
meter even if they don't have sewer.
NEW STATE REGULATIONS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
FOR IRRIGATION METERS
IRRIGATION METER REQUIREMENTS:
All new in-ground irrigation systems installed
after application of this section that will be
supplied water from the Town of Aberdeen water
system shall be independently connected to the
system and water consumption shall be measured
through a separate irrigation meter.
METHODS OF CONNECTION:
An irrigation service line may be installed by a
direct tap into the main (separate tap) or by a
split line off the non-irrigation service line
at a point between the main and the
non-irrigation meter (split tap). Either method
of connection shall be performed by the Town of
Aberdeen Public Utilities Department or a
licensed contractor. A licensed contractor must
obtain a permit from the Town of Aberdeen prior
to installing an irrigation service line.
TECHNICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
An irrigation service line, the irrigation meter
and all related appurtenances shall be installed
in accordance with the same regulations,
policies and procedures that apply to
non-irrigation meters.
Backflow Prevention Program
This
backflow prevention program is required by all
commercial, business, and residential customers
that have swimming pools and/or underground lawn
sprinkler systems. If you have not
received a letter from the Town about the
testing requirements yet and you have a pool or
underground sprinkler system, you will be
receiving a letter shortly. If you
currently have an RPZ, then you are required to
have it tested once a year by a certified
tester. Most RPZ's are due for testing
this time of the year, so please contact one of
the following certified testers to make an
appointment:
-
David Keith - 910-944-1384 or 910-639-2745
-
Larry Brannan - 910-281-4324
-
Dennis Holder - 910-639-7246
The
objective of the backflow prevention ordinance
for the Town of Aberdeen is to protect the
potable water supply of the Town of Aberdeen.
This will be accomplished by requiring the use
of appropriate backflow protection methods.
The possibility of contamination will be
minimized by confining within the customer's
private water system those contaminants or
pollutants which could, under adverse
conditions, backflow through uncontrolled
cross-connections into the public water system.

Changes to
Curbside Garbage Collection
Aberdeen citizens will be
required to follow the curbside policies listed
below. Renters will need to sign for
their container at the water department.
· Residential:
Allowed one 95-gallon curbside container
for larger families or one 65-gallon
curbside container for smaller families. If a
citizen is disabled and unable to place
container at the curb, please call 944-7799.
· Commercial:
Allowed one 95-gallon curbside
container. Heavier garbage producers can
request up to two more curbside containers. If
any business requires more than the three
95-gallon curbside containers, according to city
ordinance, that business will need to contract
dumpster service with a private waste company.
However, if the business location is unsuitable
for a dumpster, extra containers are available
with additional fees applied.
CURBSIDE POLICY
1. The
curbside container may be placed at the curb
either the night before or by 8:00 a.m. the morning of your
regularly scheduled garbage day.
2. The front of the curbside container
needs to face the street for easy pickup.
3. It is expected that the container is
removed from the curb the same day after garbage
is removed from the
container. Solid waste should still be placed in
plastic bags. Please do not place loose waste
or yard waste in
curbside containers.
4. The curbside container is the property
of the Town of Aberdeen and is issued to the
property; therefore the
container is to remain with the property if you move.
· The
Town will supply the first container at no cost
to the resident or business, but if lost,
stolen, or damaged, the resident or business
will be responsible for replacement.
The container is the property
of the Town of Aberdeen, so if you sell or move
away from the property then the container stays
with the property.

Why is Grease a Problem?
Backups, blockages, and overflows can create
serious problems for the environment resulting
in health problems, foul odors, property damage
and pollution for rivers and streams. That
is why we are asking our citizens to please
adhere to the following guidelines when
disposing of grease.
DO
NOT:
-
Pour grease, fats, and oils from cooking
down the drain.
-
Use the toilet as a wastebasket - Diapers,
condoms, and personal hygiene products do
not belong in the sewer system.
-
Use the sewer as a means to dispose of food
scraps.
DO:
-
Collect grease in a container and dispose of
it in garbage.
-
Place a wastebasket in each bathroom for the
disposal of solid waste.
-
Place food scraps in waste containers or the
garbage for disposal with solid waste, or
better yet, start a compost pile.
-
Promote the concept of "3 R's": Reduce,
Recycle, Reuse.
