North Carolina has so much to offer its residents and visitor, from beautiful beaches to the mountains and everything in between. It turns out that North Carolina also offers safe cities. According to The National Council for Home Safety and Security who announced their annual Safest Cities in North Carolina Report for 2017. To identify the safest cities in North Carolina, National Council for Home Safety and Security reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with their own population data and internal research, for all towns and cities in North Carolina with a population over 5,000 residents.

The cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people. The crimes were weighted with Violent crimes given 70% and property crimes 30% weight.

Moore County was fortunate to have 3 towns in the top 50 with Pinehurst at #1, Southern Pines #47 and Aberdeen at #50. The Aberdeen Police Department is proud of this ranking and are striving to work hard to move up the list. As always we are requesting the cooperation of our residents to help by being the eyes and ears of our community. If you see anything that seems suspicious or does not look right, please call 911 to have an officer dispatched and let us check it out.
