Aberdeen Accepted into Certified Local Government Program

Aberdeen is proud to announce its recent acceptance into the Certified Local Government Program.
The Certified Local Government (CLG) program is a local, state, and federal partnership that serves to support local preservation efforts and affirms the local commitment to historic preservation. With assistance from the State Historic Preservation Office in Raleigh, Aberdeen has just been granted CLG status by the National Park Service, which oversees historic preservation at the federal level and also granted the  National Register status to Aberdeen’s Historic District in 1989. Benefits of being a CLG include:
  1. Access to technical assistance and training for staff and members of Historic Commissions;
  2. Allows the community to have more input during any pending National Register nomination process within its jurisdiction;
  3. Availability of grant funds designated specifically for CLGs to accomplish projects such as historic surveys to identify significant properties, creation of educational materials regarding historic preservation, and development of or updates to design guidelines to assist commissions in their decision making and insure the historic character of the community is protected.
